EARLY LABYRINTH / LATE LABYRINTH
Early Labyrinth is a music-based political entity formed in Berlin in 2019. Heavily loaded with a many membered band and the burden of the last 50 years of popular music, the project is "thematically punk" yet sonically channels far funkier spirits to guide it through the ancient maze of human song craft. Soulful hooks of class war, smooth harmonies meditating on military torture, and choral refrains to stave off end times become tools for carving out space beyond the omnipresent police state. Conceived as a remedy to the general malaise of growing up and older under imperial global capitalism, this is music made for dancing on the future graves of dead systems, layered rhythms playing out across the cemeteries late at night as what is left of humanity mingles with its ghosts.
Currently, Early Labyrinth has assembled a multi-headed community to deliver press statements from their Necropolitical (Dis-)Organization and is putting together its next Communiqué.
Late Labyrinth exists, but has no internet or social media presence aside from this sentence.
Notes on "Thematically Punk":
“Thematically” is used as a qualifier for Early Labyrinth’s “Punk” for lack of a better term. Popular music is beyond reform. If we must rely on old forms, then Punk is as close as we can get. In that spirit, a visual pastiche is utilized: the stencil font was inspired by Crass who said “All art is plagiarism.”
